When to buy Galletto 4 and kess v2 together?

Galletto 4 work with truck, including Benz truck, read and write ECU via both BDM and OBD; KESS not works with truck, read and write ECU via only OBD, not BDM.

When to buy Kess v2 and Ktag together?

KESS V2 is a ECU programming tool that is perfect for OBD use, while KTag is perfect for Jtag, BDM and all the Boot application (tricore and ST10).

With KESS V2 you programming directly through the OBD port of the vehicle, while with Ktag (Ktag 2.13) you need to take apart the ECU and open it, after you can make the read/write operation.

Many ECU has the advantage that can be read and write from OBD port (so KESS V2 is perfect), but there are lot ECU that need to disassemble from the car and open and this is the case for all the ECU that need to be programmed with Jtag, BDM and Boot protocols, so KTAG is needed.

When to buy Fgtech 4, Kess v2 and Ktag all together?

Because non of China tool will cover all cars good and if you buy clone tools, buy all (galletto+kess+ktag) from them, that you will cover more cars, or better to buy a good original tool if you will do the work as a pro, all depends want you will do.

How to switch K+DCAN cable 7&8 pin for K-Line or Dcan connection

How to use/switch/connect to K-Line or Dcan pin 7&8? I have one of those K+DCAN USB cables and I am confused about how to switch the modes of it. Here are good tips i found, of the switch-mode k+dcan usb cable user manual. All i’ve collected just for education.

About the switch-mode K+DCAN interface

I assume the reasons being that on DCAN cars one pin is used for a ethernet connection and the other to the K data line – on K line cars, both pins are connected to K data lines and that creating a switch mode circuit would cost more than the interface is worth. The 2 most sensible options are both hardware-related:-

  1. Use an adapter (such as the one sold by One Stop electronics) which internally bridges pins 7 & 8 or,
  2. Mount a small switch on the OBD plug end of your adapter, which can bridge (for K line) or separate (for DCAN) the connection between pins 7 & 8.

– So you have to physically connect (K-Line) or disconnect (DCAN) pin 7&8?

– Yes, I think connection by soldering is a bad option as it limits the usefulness of the interface, I have an adapter but consider a switch to be a better option.

 

 

– Is there anything else to do for switching from K-Line to DCAN then disconnecting pin 7&8? Unfortunately I don’t have a DCAN model available.

– As soon as you connect the interface to the car and your computer, run DCAN.exe to configure the comms rate. I have only used my K+DCAN interface with DCAN cars.

 

 

– Is it necessary to do so every time I want to use DCAN or is the interface staying in DCAN mode once I ran DCAN.exe?

– You only need to run it when you are switching between modes. If you run it the first time you connect to a DCAN car, your computer will retain the settings.

 

 

– How do I switch back to K-Line? Just by connecting the two pins or is further action on the computer required?

– Earlier e39 had both the OBD port in the cabin and the round 20 pin connector under the hood.

 

The OBD port only allowed access to limited modules, I think only the DME in fact.

 

I always switch my K+D CAN adapter between K and D CAN protocols as I need to, depending on the car that I’m connecting to.

I use the DOS version of the DCAN utility. As mentioned if you only use the adapter on the e39, run the utility once and set the adapter to K CAN and leave it at that.

 

In fact thinking about it I use the same adapter for INPA, DIS and ISID.

 

With these K DCAN cables there are two subtle different versions, one with pin 8 enabled, one with it disabled. The one with it disabled is ideal for e90 newer than 03/07 & that era, these leads often come with a black adapter to re-enable the pin 8 (by just tying it to pin 9) so it will also be suitable for e46/e39/e63 etc. The ones with pin 8 active are just older versions of the cable. Worst cast scenario you just need to modify the cable & stuck a switch on it to toggle pin 8 on/off as needed.

 

Finally there are a lot of rubbish adapter cables out there. Finding a good one can be tricky.

 

 

– I have a 2003 E39 so there is no OBD1 anymore. How do you switch the modes physically? Do you use such a adapter to connect Pin 7&8?

– If you don‘t plan to use the cable on any cars that have DCAN(2007+) then you can pop open the case and solder a jumper between them. When you do this the DCAN functionality will no longer work though.

EDC15 Recovery using Bootmode with MPPS V18

But aparently none of them described how to do this exatcly, i mean how to write with mpps in bootmode. Everyone was saying that is “simple, just write in bootmode”, “MPPS can recover almost any EDC15 ECU”, “I’ve done many times” an so on.

 

I found this very hard to do, and while searching decided that if i succeed to recover i will do a simple instructions how to do it without asking too many dumb questions.

 

So here it is in very short description, with pictures.

 

 

Note: You do this on your own, and i cant be responsible for mistakes you make!

 

 

 

 

  1. Remove the ECU. Warm it a little bit up, there is a sealnt which holds the housing halves pretty strong, so after warming will be easier to open it. Dont heat it too much, just to be hand warm. Here is the picture, this is what you will probably see inside the ECU case.

  1. 29F400 Location and bootmode pin 24. For now you have to solder a wire to the pin. To the other end of the wire connect 5k resistor. That’s it for now. Here are the picture of the chip, and the pin to be used.

  1. Prepare all the connections to the ecu and MPPS cable as shown on the picture below.

  1. Pin16 = +12v

 

  1. Pins 4&5 = Ground

 

  1. Pin 7 = K Line

 

 

  1. When all done and checked twice, connect your MPPS cable to PC, open software and locate the BOOTMODE wirte function. This was tricky for me, but finally i got to this point and after that everything was a peace of cake. Before connectin the +12v power supply to the proper cable as you have seen in the pictures above. And before connecting the negative wire be sure to ground the bootmode pin 24 thru a 5k resistor, and remove it after aprox 15 seconds, but do not disconnect the ecu and MPPS power connections.

 

 

 

  1. Navigate to where you choose brand and choose not VW or Audi etc. but choose GENERIC. I found this Hardly noticable, and found only after a hint in the internet after 16 hours of searching.

After that choose your ECU as stated in the List that opens after you choose GENERIC

  1. Click Checksum Open the file that you want to checksum, the open the file that you have read from your car before making any mods. Above the progress bar you will see something written in GREEN color, and you’re good to go. Then click Write, choose the file to write and wait fo a while for the progress bar to reach 100% and you are done, and as happy as i was that i have saved some $$ on buying programmers, or used ECU’s, or sending to a tuner for a fix.
